MARCH MADNESS FOOD DEMO
The March Madness Food Demo was wonderful. Thanks to our chefs, volunteers, and of course the many people who stopped by try the delicious samples. New elements were added to this year's demo, including music and a aural story piece where members of AARI, family, and friends recalled recipes as well as stories revolving around the African vegetable garden egg.
Another highlight was the bitterball seed giveaway which provided the more adventurous a chance to try planting the vegetable at home. We plan to stay in touch with everyone who took some seeds and keep updated on their progress.
A sampling table was set outside at the AARI stand to feature our value added products (Spicy Carrot Apple Jam, Sweet Carrot- Apple Jam, and Extra Spicy Roasted Bitterball Spread) which were used to create some of the delicious recipes. A few lucky passers by were able to test try a new item AARI is considering to add to the product line called Roasted Bitterball and Dark Grape Spread.
This season's demo was a great success and created great momentum for the next food demo. This was the first year people actually came out of the demo looking to buy bitterball relish which was really exciting!
Special Thanks to:
Griffin Vosbeck and Genesis Ortiz who cooked with Dave
Georgina and Dave, who chef'd it up and created some awesome recipes
Monica, a Farm Fresh Volunteer and Naffi, our intern from the MET
Eleanor Meshnick and Didier Lucceus, our interns from Brown
And Pauline , Alynne who made the dips, and Jumoke who encouraged people to try the Value Added products.
Thanks as well to Mr. Julius our director and Kafue who helped make the demo a true success! If you are interested in attending the next demo, email the African Alliance at info@africanallianceri.org.
